Founded in 2001 by Claudia Folzman and Dave Edgar, Iron Construction, Inc. began with the vision of creating a non-traditional commercial general contracting company where executive management was actively involved with projects and clients. It is this vision that has shaped the core values of Iron Construction, placing the highest importance on client relationships.
As demand for Iron Construction’s services increased, Folzman and Edgar decided to build a permanent home for their company instead of continuing to rent a facility. Partnering with Bay Area Development Company and Wells Fargo Bank, they purchased a 27,000 square foot space in Sunnyvale in 2013 and began extensive renovations that include utilizing geothermal energy built to LEED Gold standards. In addition to being extremely energy efficient, the new location gives Folzman and Edgar the room they need to double their workforce over time.
Iron Construction places high importance on caring: being socially responsible and connecting to the community, with events like the annual Iron Construction Charity Golf Classic, an event that has raised over $350K for Operation: Care and Comfort (OCC). Since 2003, OCC has shipped nearly one million pounds of care packages for distribution to Marine, Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard personnel that are deployed in conflict regions.
Additional philanthropic outreach includes annual participation in OCC’s Adopt a Military Family during the holiday season, Loaves and Fishes Thanksgiving Canned Food Collection, Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence Holiday Clothing and Toy Drive, Friends of Los Gatos Creek Clean Up Day, Share Your Holiday program, Walk for Life, Tough Mudder’s Wounded Warrior Project, Links for Life and reaching out to and supporting military families in need throughout the greater Bay Area.
The San Francisco District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration honoured Iron Construction as the 2014 Small Business of the Year for Northern California. Iron Construction was chosen not only because of the success it has experienced, but also because of the growth it achieved through tough times, and the jobs that they both kept and created during those tough times.
